Odette

Mrs Odette Nicholas

Odette has taught for 30 years across all ages of Primary education.  She has combined her love of animals in her role as a teacher and leader in Primary schools and adviser in the Local Authority.

Odette has used her passion for supporting pupils to overcome barriers to take part in research alongside Dr Helen Lewis measuring the impact of animals in schools.
Bringing her own dog into schools involved taking part in training to become a Burn By Your Side volunteer with 2 of her own dogs over 7 years.  By sharing and celebrating the impact and difference dogs have on children’s wellbeing, attendance and learning is important to Odette.  Notably, by taking part in a certified scheme she has developed her understanding of the needs of dogs and the importance of effective training and procedures to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of the dogs is always monitored and prioritised.

Odette has attended many training opportunities through the scheme where her passion for understanding and working with dogs has grown and she has left education to train to work full time with dogs.
